In 1764, he was described as "one of the principal merchants of this Island, who employs as many, or more, people in his services by land and sea as any other person in the Island": Petition of the Principaux of St Helier, 1764, cited in G.R. In 1772, he became Seigneur of Mélèches, on the insolvency of the former seigneur, Fiott having been one of his principal creditors
