Cuckoo, sunk inside St Helier Harbour in 1850

HMS Cuckoo, which had formerly been the Cinderella, was built in London in 1824 for owners operating the Irish mail run. She was of 234 tons, with 100 hp engines and she carried the Island mails until 26 April 1845, when she was transferred to Gorey as a fishery protection vessel, and while on this service struck the Oyster Rock just outside St Helier and sank inside the harbour on 14 May 1850. She was refloated and continued her service at Gorey until withdrawn in 1851.
