1201 King John ordered Pierre de Préaux, Ballivus, to raise contributions for the island's defence. First mention of a Bailiff.
1203 Grant by Pierre de Préaux of the Ecréhous to the Abbey of Val Richer. The monks built a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
1204 King John driven out of Normandy. Channel Islands occupied by French
1204 Eustace the Monk captures Jersey for King John, who fortifies the islands, including the construction of Gouray and Grosnez Castles
1206 Construction starts on castle at Gorey which is eventually named Mont Orgueil Castle
1212 Philippe d'Aubigné appointed first Warden of the Isles with responsibility for Jersey. Second raid by Eustace the Monk repulsed.
1213 King John reputed to have visited Jersey
1214 Eustace the Monk retakes Channel Islands for France.
1236 Philippe d'Aubigné dies in Jerusalem.
1240 Drouet de Barentin appointed Warden of the Isles
1254 Prince Edward, son of Henry III, granted the Lordship of the Isles.
1274 First Extente, return of Island revenues, made to King Edward I
1275 Otto de Grandison appointed Warden of the Isles followed in 1277 as Lord of the Isles, which he would be for 50 years
1279 Edward I grants Public Seal of three leopards to the island
1294 French fleet under the command of Jean d'Harcourt and Matthieu de Montmorency attacked Jersey, pillaging churches and dwellings
1294 Earliest record of a Rector of St Helier, Nicolas Dupont
