Jersey fashions, decade by decade

This is a selection of images taken by professional photographers in Jersey showing what their well-to-do customers and their children were wearing when they had their portraits taken, from the 1860s through to the 1930s. Although the pictures generally fall within the stated decades, we have not dated the individual images because sometimes it is difficult to place them accurately other than within a period of 2-3 years or more. The earliest surviving pictures taken in Jersey date from the mid-1840s, so the pictures in our 1850 gallery are very early examples of portraits taken commercially. Where possible we have given the names of the photographers who took the pictures.
