History of the property

The building now occupying this prominent town-centre position has no history in itself, but the history of the site tells the story of retail trading in Jersey over more than a century.

The properties 1, 2 and 3 Beresford Street were progressively acquired by Le Riches Stores either side of the turn of the 19th century, and a new building was constructed occupying the whole site. That building was replaced in 1932, and the 30-year cycle was repeated when another more modern building replaced it in the 1960s.

Le Riches no longer operate from the building, which is has been leased by other businesses since the 1970s.
