A corollary to the genealogist's nightmare...

...found from bitter experience: the fact that three generations of a family's sons were baptised with the same name does not mean that that was the name they were known by. Witness Frank Stone Clements (known as John) and his son Frank Renouf Clements (known as Jimmy, to the extent that his wife found out his real name only when they met the vicar to give him the information for the marriage certificate, and this in the early 1950s!) --Jmbmac 18:24, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Know what you mean. I am Michael James Bisson and called my first son Michael Paul Bisson. He was brought up and is know to the family as Paul. When he went to university he decided on a whim that he would become Michael, and is now known to everyone, as I am, as Mike
