Occupation registration cards for family names beginning U

During the German Occupation it was compulsory for all islanders to be issued with identity cards. The record cards which held the details submitted when applications were made were, for many years, held in filing cabinets in the Bailiff's office. They were later deposited with Jersey Archive.

Now Jerripedia is providing an A-Z index to these cards, which idenitify some 30,000 island residents during World War Two, and also separately listing those for families in our 1,000-plus Family pages

The cards logged a person’s name, maiden name, address, place and date of birth, marriage state and occupation. Each card was accompanied by a blue form that contained extra information not on the cards, including colour of hair, colour of eyes, physical peculiarities and military service. Names of children under the age of 14 were noted on the back of the father’s card, and each adult’s photo was attached to the front. The German authorities had their own copy of each record. Many records show two addresses - individuals are shown as being 'of' one address, and resident at another. We have shown both entries.

Our index shows name, date of birth, date of registration and address. Family names are shown in alphabetical order. Individual entries for each family are sorted by ascending date of birth, not alphabetically by forename

Occupation identity cards

Please note that some inviduals are shown with two addresses. We believe that this is usually the result of an error in Ancestry's indexing routines and recommend that records are checked against the Jersey Archive website.
