Adverts for bulls

Single-column adverts in 1900
Jersey's longest-running newspaper, the Chronique de Jersey was targeted at the French-speaking farming community from its early years, from 1814 onwards, until the start of the German Occupation. From the late 19th century dairy farmers used the publication to advertise the service of their prize-winning bulls. To begin with their adverts were relatively small single-column insertions, but as the newspaper began to fill its pages with advertising and very little news, the farmers competed with larger and larger display advertisements on the front, back and inside pages of each edition.
We have assembled a selection of these adverts, from 1874 onwards, on this page

This 1928 advert extolled the virtues of Rosel Manor Farm's herd, both in show victories and milk production, and offered the services of five different bulls at prices from 10 shillings to £1
