ALR ♥ 1733 MGL- For Augustin Le Rossignol and Marguerite Guillet and their son Pierre. There is a complex monogram at the end of the stone believed to represent Pierre.

Listed building

Farm group, 16th century origins with 18th and early 19th century alterations. The main house, pigsties, wash-house and barn retain their architectural integrity and historic interest. Wash house is dated 1827. It appears that the gable ends and the rear north elevation with stair tower are much earlier than the front elevation and could be surviving parts of an original 16th century house. The refronting appears to date to circa 1800. Shown on the Richmond Map of 1795.

Unusually the reference to the house in Volume 2 of the work concentrates on the family living there, and gives only sketchy information about the house itself, noting that it has a good bakehouse and bread oven.

"This was the home of a branch of the Le Rossignol family from about 1530, when Pierre, son of Guillaume, was already established there, and his descendants appear to have remained there until the time of Pierre Philippe (1845-1916), whose son Peter emigrated to Canada.

"Augustin (seen notes above on datestones) was the son of Augustin (1625-1703) and Catherine, nee Prouings, the great grandson of the Pierre of 1530. Marguerite Guillet was the eldest daughter of the Rev Jean Francois Guillet, Rector of St Ouen (1664-99).

"It will be noticed that the couple put up their stone when they had already been married for 30 years, and that Augustin, older than his wife, had but six years to live."
