Descendants of Thomas Le Vesconte



This tree was added to the site in 2011 and reviewed in 2019. The original was researched by Miss Jean Arthur and appears as La famille Le Vesconte. Further information has now been added, including the first two generations as now shown, which takes the family further back in St Mary. Jean Arthur thought Michel, now in generation 4, was possibly the son born in 1690 to Thomas Le Vesconte of St Peter. The current discovery of the date of his marriage (1702) to Marguerite Laell makes this impossible.

It should be noted that forenames in the first three generations of this tree resemble those used in the first two of Descendants of Thomas Le Vesconte. The latter family are probably descended from a yet-to-be-identified son in generation 2 of the family featured on this page.

A review in 2021 resulted in the addition of a descent in Jersey from Philippe (1721- ) at generation 5 at the bottom of the tree and another in 2025, by Mike Bisson, added more details

  4. ↑ Maurice Le Brocq and Catherine Le Vesconte had Jeanne (1676- ) and Thomas (1678- ). The latter had as godparents: Francois Le Brocq and Foy, his daughter, wife of Thomas Le Vesconte
  5. ↑ The marriage record shows him as son of Jean, but the baptismal record has not been found. His was either a missed entry by the compiler of the register or he was born of an earlier marriage of Jean Le Vesconte. Esther Dorey was on her second marriage. The earliest surviving registers in St Mary begin in 1648 for baptisms and marriages

  13. ↑ Master mariner; mariner on marriage at Holy Rood, Southampton. John Jean lists the ships of which he was master: Providence 1737, Mary 1747 and Pretty in 1751: Jersey Sailing Ships. Jean Arthur found that he was the owner of each of these vessels. Michel settled by 1754 in St Brelade

The godparents of some of their children were, as might be expected, members of the Le Vesconte family.
