Origins of surname

This name is an early English surname for a swineherd, someone who looked after pigs, from the old English for = 'hog' and weard = 'guardian'

Early records

The first appearance of this surname in Jersey records was the baptism in St Helier in 1818 of John Jones Forward, son of Samuel and Mary Ann Jones. This family line was not continued, but John Hill Forward and Mary Ann Pater had nine children baptised in St Helier from 1834 to 1848,
