Direct links to lists of baptisms, marriages and burials for the Webber family can be found under Family Records opposite. If you want to search for records for a spelling variant of Webber, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.
You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.
The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Origins of surname
Along with Webb, this name has its origins in 'web', the old English for weave. webbe was a male weaver and webster, the female equivalent
Early records
The first appearance of this surname in Jersey records was the baptism of George, son of Jean Webber and Marthe Mouranbt, in Grouville in 1698. There was then a gap of eight years until the couple's daughter Rachel was baptised, followed by three more children in 1710, 1713 and 1714. It is believed that Jean Webber, who married Marie de Quetteville and had five children baptised in Grouville between 1732 and 1747, was probably another son of Jean and Marthe

Family album

In 1854 he travelled to Australia on the Norwood from Liverpool to Melbourne, working as a labourer and cooper there before going gold prospecting.
He then returned to Jersey where he married Elizabeth Mary Perree (1834-1889) at St Simon's Church in 1858. They had nine children in the next 15 years, the first two in Jersey. But then the desire to travel set in again and Simon took his young family to New Zealand in 1862 on the Mersey. In 1870 he set up in business on his own in Shakespeare Road, Napier - see advert above. The shop he rented for his business was damaged by a fire in neighbouring premises in 1871. Simon died in 1874 after contracting tetanus
